How To Make An Entrance

CREATING THE FIRST AND LAST IMPRESSION

The entryway is the threshold to the home. Its presence immediately sets the tone for what can be expected as you make your way through the halls and rooms that follow. It can be a large, commanding space with high ceilings and stunning chandeliers, or it can be a quaint corner with a single chair and a few framed photos. Either are just as significant to each other in making a statement that lasts.

A thoughtfully curated entrance has the ability to bring light, art, texture, and color to its surroundings which in turn brings warmth to its guests. Below are a few looks we pulled together to show you how to achieve these elements in your own home and create an entrance that is simple, elegant, and inviting.

EFFORTLESS

You don’t need a designated foyer to label a space as your entry. A single wall is all it takes. You are creating a moment of comfort and familiarity that says “I’m home” every time you or a guest walks through the door.

All you need is a chest that brings character or sentiment to your home, a timeless mirror to let in more light, a statement lamp to create a cozy evening ambience, and a decorative tray or bowl to toss your keys or your mail into; an effortless and charming welcome for your guests.

COMfortable

An entry bench invites us to take a seat and put ourselves together before we rush out the front door, or take a seat and unwind after a long day. Your kids don’t need to sit on the floor to tie their shoes, and your spouse doesn’t have to lean against the staircase waiting for you. It’s convenient and warm and welcomes comfort to those who pass by.

To turn this look into its own statement and introduce some color and personality into your entryway, add works of art that you love on the walls. Want to make the bench a little more cozy? Add a pair of patterned pillows to the mix.

BALANCED

An entryway that serves more than one purpose; it’s multifunctional, but still visually pleasing. If you want to get the most use out of your entry space, creating balance is they key to doing so.

A long console table with drawers for storage not only creates more counter space, but allows you to store more than your pocket can handle. Add two lamps rather than one to brighten the table and add balance to either end. Need a seating area but don’t have room for a bench? Two ottoman stools hidden beneath the table will do the trick.

Complete the look by accessorizing and adding a punch of color. Select a painting that fits your preferred palette for the backdrop. For the centerpiece, add a tall long-lasting orchid atop a detailed gold tray.

artistic

Take advantage of an empty corner! If you have a space that is too small for a console or bench, lean into design. Create an artistic moment.

A plain chair can look out of place. Find a uniquely designed chair that claims the corner as its own. Put together a gallery wall using your collection of portraits, canvases, or framed photographs. It’s the little moments in a home that can become the most special.

TASTEFUL

All for the look, but in a tasteful manner. You want to create a bold but humble scene that stands on its own for the purpose to be admired. This is best for the spaces in your entry that echo, or need more life and less function.

A medium, round bistro table paired with a large organic vase is a great way to accomplish this. Warm up the two with an authentic Persian rug anchoring beneath them. You and your guests will find yourselves taking a minute out of the day to enjoy what you have created.
